Will this necklace tarnish? Yes. This necklace is solid sterling silver with no plating or coating of any kind. It won't flake, peel, or wear through because the silver goes all the way through. You can polish it back to its original shine as often as you want, and proper storage and maintenance can reduce tarnishing.

Will the toggle clasp stay secure? Yes, but with some caveats. Toggle clasps are designed to stay connected during everyday wear. The bar slides through the ring and rests horizontally, holding it securely in place. They're also easier to fasten on your own than traditional spring ring clasps. However, they should not be worn while sleeping or during high-activity situations (like workouts, sports, or travel).

What's the best chain length for layering? It depends on your other necklaces, but 16" sits at the collarbone, 18" rests just below, and 20" falls closer to the neckline. If you're layering, choose lengths that are at least 2" apart so they don't tangle.

How much can I engrave on the heart? Each side of the heart can fit up to 10 characters, including spaces. We recommend keeping it short for the best results, such as initials, a date, or a single word.

Can I wear this in the shower? You can, but we recommend removing it before showering or swimming to keep it looking its best. Water will not harm the necklace, but sterling silver can tarnish faster when exposed to water, soap, and lotions. If you do get it wet, rinse it with fresh water, dry thoroughly with a clean microfiber towel, and follow up with a wipe-down using a treated polishing cloth to slow any tarnishing.
